Tony Agostinelli Sr. and wife Theresa founded Charlotte Appliance in 1932, originally located in the village of Charlotte at the corner of Fleming Street and Lake Avenue.
During the depression when money was scarce, Tony Sr. would barter & trade with customers for goods and services. He developed such a rapport with them that they kept coming back. We did not and still do not, have the overhead that the chain, department or specialty stores had. Tony Sr. was an entrepreneur that surmised his goals & dreams by cultivating a reputation of department store service at low prices.
The business did so well, that in 1960 he was able to purchase this block-long Lake Theater building. In 1961 he added televisions, furniture & bedding to the sales list. Like today, the lobby, ballroom & balcony areas were stocked with televisions & furniture that filled the expansive theater. The lower level is reserved for appliances. The lighted marquis reads, "Charlotte Appliance".
Charlotte Furniture & Appliance remains locally owned & operated by the second and third generation Agostinelli's. The owners are on premises along with the most knowledgeable sales & office staff work side by side to uphold the reputation of our founder.
